COVID-19: Sex workers suffer during social distancing in India

Director of the All India Network of Sex Workers, Amit Kumar told the media that sex workers in India have went to villages due to the current situation.
Those who are still in New Delhi are facing a dire outlook, he said .

“Many of them have nothing to eat,” Kumar said. “There are some arrangements made by government for migrant laborers, but nothing has been done to help sex workers.”

The Women’s Commission of Delhi has urged authorities to help the sex workers.
Some 1.3 billion people in India have been under a 21-day lockdown from March 25 in response to the coronavirus outbreak. There are bans on people leaving their homes, with only essential services being allowed to take action.

The government have hinted that, they will extend the lockdown til the end of the month. It is very unclear how this will affect the livelihood of daily wage workers and those working in the country’s informal sectors.
